The smartphone market is ready to be shaken up once again this fall when the new iPhone 5 is released. All reports are pointing to an October release date of both the iPhone 5 running on the all new iOS 6. There have been countless rumors from enough sources the last several months that we can now have a pretty good idea of what the new iPhone5 will be like. Here is a list of the most realistic rumors.
Design
The iPhone 4 and 4S had the same design, but that is not the case with the new iPhone. All signs are pointing to a larger phone. While it will not be as large as the Samsung Galaxy S3, it will certainly will be taller than the 4/4S. As far as specifics go, the iPhone 5 will be 120mm tall, which is about 5mm taller than the 4S. The width will stay the same. This added height will allow the new iPhone to have a 4 inch screen. As far as thickness goes, expect an even thinner iPhone than the 4S. The previous iPhone was 9.3mm while the new iPhone 5 is rumored to be just 7.9mm thick.
Hardware
iPhones are known for being fast and the new iPhone 5 will undoubtedly feature a quad-core processor, possibly the A6 chip with 1 GB of RAM. While that may not sound mindblowing, it’s the iOS6 software that’s going to help make this phone both fast and powerful.
Battery
Currently not much is known about the battery size nor the battery life. Most of the 4G LTE smartphones in existence at the moment have a difficult time lasting a full day. Perhaps iOS6 is built to provide better battery life. Perhaps thinner components will be used, allowing for a thicker battery. But leave it to Apple to surely release a phone that can both be slim and have a strong battery life.
Dock Connector
The new iPhone will have a 19 pin dock connector. This means your existing charging cables won’t work with this new phone. So what’s the benefit of the new dock? This new dock would probably use the magnet system, which is on the Macbook Pro’s, to snap the cable in securely.
Camera
The new iPhone will most likely have a 8MP rear camera. The front facing camera will also improve. Just how much nobody knows, but it may even be HD quality.
